International Readers

What a joy to be a foreign missionary and without having to leave the Auburn University campus! Many students read through the Gospel of Luke with an international student each week to help them improve their conversational English – they are able to share not only the Gospel, but their lives as well.

FAQs for Parents of New Students

What is the Auburn Christian Student Center (ACSC)?

The Auburn Christian Student Center, located at 439 South College Street, is the campus ministry of the Auburn Church of Christ. We are blessed to have approximately 250 students active in this ministry. The Elders of the Auburn congregation oversee all the programs and education for the campus ministry. Jim Brinkerhoff has served as the Campus Minister for over 25 years.

Well, what is the difference then between the Auburn Christian Student Center (ACSC) and the Auburn Christian Foundation (ACF)?

The Auburn Christian Foundation, comprised of 12 board members, provides the physical facilities and some of the staff salaries for the Auburn Christian Student Center. They are a non-profit organization that depends on contributions from parents, alumni, and friends to provide for your children. Feel free to contact Bob Forrester, ACF Chairman, for more details at bobandjulie@bellsouth.net. The mailing address for the ACF is P. O. Box 1841, Auburn, AL 36831 if you would like to make a contribution or you can donate with Paypal by clicking the donate button on the right hand side of the website.

Do you really have mid-week services on Thursday nights?

es, the Auburn Church of Christ does have mid-week services on Thursday nights, and has done so for decades. All college students meet together each semester for the first 5 or 6 weeks at the Auburn Christian Student Center at 6:30 pm and then after the first few weeks they will break up into smaller classes for the rest of the semester. During fall semester, Jim Brinkerhoff teaches a special class entitled “The Cross and Campus” for all freshmen and transfer students.

Who should I contact if I feel like my child is struggling or has a special need?

Feel free to contact Jim Brinkerhoff at brink@au4jesus.org, our ACSC Activities Coordinator, Mary Brinkerhoff, at mary@au4jesus.org, or one of our Campus Ministry Interns, David Meek at meekdav@auburn.edu or Nesha Burch at neshaburch@gmail.com. We all have offices at the ACSC and the phone number there is 334-821-8222. We are here to help your child grow spiritually while they are here at Auburn! We are thankful when parents care enough to contact us.

Do the residents and students interact with each other much?

We are blessed to have wonderful resident families who serve your children in many ways while they are here at Auburn getting an education. We are a congregation comprised of half residents and half college students, so it can be very draining at times for our residents. Yet, year after year, the residents continue to do things like adopt new students through our Adopt-A-Student program. This congregation is very committed to your child and the campus ministry as a whole. Tom Steed, our pulpit minister is very supportive of our campus ministry, and can be reached at tom@auburnchurch.org. Also, please feel free to contact any of our seven Elders via our church website www.auburnchurch.org.

My child won’t be able to participate in everything at the ACSC, but what should I encourage them to do?

PPlease encourage them to come to the weekly college student Devotionals on Tuesday nights at 7 pm at the ACSC. This is a very uplifting time of praise, prayer, and Bible study. This is also where opportunities such as intramural teams, mission trips, small group Bible studies, service projects and social events are communicated. This is where students find strength through fellowship with each other so that they can be a shining light for Jesus on a dark campus!

Can parents come visit ACSC events?

Yes, anytime! Make your plans now to join us in the spring for our annual “Family Weekend” which is held in conjunction with Auburn University’s A-Day weekend. All parents, siblings, grandparents, and friends are invited to join us for a great weekend of fellowship and fun! Details will be communicated each year once the official date of the A-Day football game is published. You will need to reserve your hotel rooms early.

What can we as parents do to help our child while they are here in Auburn?

Pray. You have done your best for 18+ years to guide and nurture them. We will do our best to help them grow closer to Jesus and connect with God’s family here. Pray for them, and pray for us!
